Comparing Traxxas iD Battery Chargers & LiPo Accessories
We are contrasting the EZ Peak chargers from the Traxxas series. We'll examine each charger's features to see how they differ and work together. Additionally, we will discuss certain Traxxas LiPo accessories, Traxxas iD connectors, and Traxxas LiPo batteries.
Consider what makes battery charging unique before delving into the EZ Peak range of Traxxas chargers. Battery chargers, after all, aren't they explicitly created to charge batteries? Isn't that the objective? Yes, the primary goal of battery charging is to do so safely. Of course, that's the objective, but since Traxxas batteries should only ever be charged on Traxxas chargers, there are situations in which accomplishing that objective can be just as crucial as actually completing it.
Traxxas Dual iD Chargers
Let's start by discussing the two chargers, the EZ Peak Two and EZ Peak LIVE Dual. With a 16 amp maximum capacity, the LIVE Dual is the most potent charger available and can charge your Traxxas LiPo batteries more quickly than any other Traxxas charger. At roughly $170, it is, quite rightly, the priciest Traxxas charger. Live Dual has Bluetooth connectivity, so you can download and install the Traxxas EZ Peak LIVE app on your iOS or Android device. You have complete manual control over how your charger operates on your mobile device and can view all of its charging characteristics with that app. Even when they are not near the charger, some people enjoy viewing all the real-time data, while others don't think it's that necessary.
If you belong to the second category, the EZ Peak Dual is most likely the dual charger for you. Despite not charging your batteries as quickly as the LIVE Dual, this $120 device can still deliver up to 8 amps of charged power. The fact that the EZ Peak Dual can only charge LiPo batteries with two or three cells is a significant consideration when comparing these two dual chargers. LiPo batteries with two, three, or four cells can be used with the LIVE Dual.
Traxxas Single iD Chargers
With a charged power of up to 12 amps, the EZ Peak LIVE is the most potent single-channel option. In fact, it is more powerful than the Dual we just examined. It is Bluetooth compatible, allowing you to access real-time data via the Traxxas EZ Peak LIVE app on your smartphone. The EZ Peak LIVE can charge two-, three---, and four-cell LiPos and costs around $110.
Last but not least, Traxxas' most basic and affordable product is the EZ Peak Plus single-channel charger, which charges at a rate of four amps and costs $60. Slash, Stampede, Rustlers, and numerous other 1/10-size RC cars work well with the EZ Peak Plus charger, which can charge both 2S and 3S LiPos.
Traxxas Charger Technologies
The chargers that charge your LiPo the fastest and have the highest charge rate specifications incorporate Bluetooth and LIVE functionality. If your Traxxas model requires 4S batteries, you will need either one of these chargers or the new EZ Peak Plus 4S single charger because these chargers are compatible with charging 4S LiPo batteries.
If you don't want 4S compatibility, the EZ Peak Dual and EZ Peak Plus will more than meet your 2S and 3S charging needs. Traxxas LiPo and Traxxas NiMH batteries can be used with any of these EZ Peak chargers, and the twin chargers can even charge a LiPo and NiMh battery simultaneously.
Since every Traxxas charger has the Traxxas iD system, it can identify any Traxxas battery with an iD connector and automatically set up its optimal charging parameters. Even with older Traxxas LiPos, these chargers are easy to use. You can still use the charger with a classic high-current Traxxas connector; however, you must remove the charger's small flap to access the balance ports on the balanced lead. After that, manually configure the charge settings and put the balance and charge lead into the charger.
The balancing ports are only used to charge older Traxxas legacy LiPo batteries, so you know. A non-Traxxas LiPo should never be charged using a Traxxas charger. Finally, you should use the two key modes available on all EZ Peak chargers. The first is the balance charge, which guarantees that the LiPo battery's cells charge at a uniformly balanced pace. The second setting is storage mode, which prepares your battery for storage. This mode is advised if you don't intend to use the batteries for more than a few days.
Traxxas Completer Packs
If you're starting from scratch, Traxxas sells 2, 3, and 4S completer packs containing batteries and EZ Peak chargers, which is more cost-effective than buying them separately. To determine which models are compatible, look at the compatibility tab on the completer pack product page.
Traxxas LiPo Charging Accessories
In addition to the EZ Peak chargers, Traxxas provides a few more DC chargers for select ready-to-run vehicles. Typically, these 12-volt DC chargers are compatible with full-size automobile cigarette lighters. However, charging a battery in this manner is inconvenient. Traxxas offers a 40-watt power supply that connects to an electrical socket and has a standard AC connector to address this. This simplifies and facilitates using the DC charger exclusively for Traxxas NiMh iD batteries.
Speaking of essentials, the Traxxas LiPo cell checker is a practical and user-friendly tool that indicates the condition and health of LiPo batteries and includes a balancing feature. As long as you charge in balance mode, as we discussed earlier, this gadget is an excellent way to check the specific voltages of each cell inside your battery to ensure the cells are balanced. However, if you use the quick charge option on the EZ Peak charger, your cells will not be balanced. Additionally, you can use the Traxxas LiPo cell checker to rebalance your cells if they gradually become unbalanced. Select the balance option.
Traxxas sells three adapters for 2, 3, and 4S LiPo batteries in a lead adaptor package to make this compatible with the Traxxas iD connector. Regretfully, the cell checker is not included in this package and should only be used if you already have one. Buying the Traxxas battery voltage cell checker with lead adapters would be more beneficial. It is essential to have a cell checker when utilizing Traxxas LiPo batteries.
