Scale RC Drift & Crawler Bodies from Killerbody
We have new scale bodies for 1/10 scale use made for drift, rock crawlers, and more. If you enjoy scaling realistic R/C cars and trucks, this is for you. So buckle up, and let's look at these fantastic scale body shells from Killerbody.
Touring Car Bodies
Having been in the R/C business for a few years, Killerbody offers a variety of R/C body shells made of polycarbonate or Lexan, in addition to its incredibly lifelike hard plastic land cruiser body.
Although there are a few off-road truck bodies for rock crawlers in the 313 and 323mm wheelbases, all of the bodies are for 1/10 scale use and are primarily for on-road touring cars, drift cars, or rally use.
To begin with, Killerbody's greatest feature is:
1) Most of the bodies available are pre-painted, detailed, and ready for installation.
2) Clear and unfinished versions of the same pre-painted body types are also offered.
This benefits both kinds of enthusiasts because not everyone has the time or desire to detail bodies, and the pre-painted body is often only $25 more expensive than the clear version.
The Killerbody, Lancia Delta, Alfa Romeo 2000 GTAm, Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ, Subaru BRZ R&D Sport, 1977 Skyline 2000 GT-ES, Nissan Skyline R31, Nissan Skyline R34, Lexus RC F, and the... are among the car body designs available on the road.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X
With its hard plastic side mirrors, wipers, wing, double exhaust, rear diffuser, and LED light buckets up front and back, the Killerbody Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X is incredibly detailed. Body clips or double-sided tape secure the majority of the attachments. Several decals are utilized, and the positioning is excellent.
Although each body has different accessories, the transparent and pre-painted versions of the same body will have all the same accessories. The work required, such as possibly installing a wing or bumper, is the sole difference between the clear and pre-painted variants. In our instance, we only added the side mirrors on our Lancer.
All Killerbody touring vehicle bodies are made of 0.9mm or 1.0mm thick Lexan, with extra hard plastic and Lexan attachments fastened to the main shell.
Fitment
The transparent bodies allow you to cut out the wheel wells, giving you some leeway. However, the pre-painted versions are already cut out, so 257mm means 257mm. The bodies are described as having a 257mm wheelbase for fitment.
The wheelbase is appropriate for this presentation, showing the pre-painted Lancer body mounted on an MST Drift Car. The body is seated on a Schumacher Mi5evo race car, and the wheelbase is acceptable.
Lastly, the body is mounted on a Kyosho Fazer Mk2 FZ02 chassis with a 260mm wheelbase. The fitment is close, but it will likely need some cutting with Lexan scissors.
The small MK2 chassis with a 260mm wheelbase is the FZ02. At 270mm, the long version, the FZ02L, is most likely too long to accommodate these bodies. The wheelbase of most chassis can be adjusted to match the body, although it's better to check first.
These bodies have an odd width of 195 mm; typically, they are either 190 mm or 200 mm, but this is done on purpose so that you can tuck the tires under the body with 190 mm or have them protrude at 200 mm. Of course, you can adjust this with different wheel offsets.
There aren't any body mount holes, so you'll need to pop them to mount them. I suggest aligning the posts with the Bittydesign magnetic marker kit to help with the pre-painted bodies. However, concealed magnetic body mount kits are used for the most realistic appearance.
In addition to the bodies, Killerbody sells some awesome extras, such as the on-road accessory kit that includes mirrors, hard plastic wings, and other items. Furthermore, Killerbody produces a smoldering exhaust pipe with a red LED to mimic backfires. Last but not least, numerous LED light kits are available, some designed especially for the Killerbodies and some universal, as well as an illuminated license plate kit and a motorized windshield wiper kit.
Killerbody Crawler Bodies
You can also use almost all of those gadgets on a rock crawler. The off-road tool sets with attaching mounts, the fabric tie-down straps, the 1/10 scale driver figure, the movable fuel door, and the LED-illuminated side mirrors will all be included. However, we haven't even discussed Killerbody's gorgeous rock crawler bodies.
Killerbody HORRI-BULL Rock Crawler Body
There are several options for 1/10 scale bodies, beginning with the 313mm wheelbase HORRI-BULL Lexan body. This body comes with a windshield visor, front and rear LED light buckets, a wide variety of decals, and a 1.5mm thick Lexan. It may be purchased clear or pre-painted.
A scale roll bar is also provided; however, you must attach it to the pre-painted version. Although bumpers and side guards would need to be removed, like we had to do to put the body on our TRX-4 Sport, this body is a universal fit for any 313mm crawler.
Killerbody Marauder Rock Crawler Body
Next is the Marauder body, a hybrid Lexan body with rugged plastic wheels below, a hard plastic tire fender, and a stiff plastic roll cage. The original Marauder had a 313mm wheelbase compatible with the SCX10 and SCX10 II. Still, the Marauder II body has a 323mm wheelbase compatible with the extended chassis TRX-4 only. As a result, the body is designed to match only particular truck types.
Since the fenders screw into the wheel wells, it would be feasible to remove all of the underneath bracing to fit the body to different trucks, although doing so would present additional problems. Either you would have to hack up the wheel wells, or the wells would have to be removed, revealing small screw holes.
Toyota Land Cruiser – LC70
Perhaps the most "killer" off-road killer body is the hard plastic Toyota Land Cruiser (also known as the LC70). Although the LC70 is a kit that needs to be put together, it comes pre-painted and is designed for scale builders who are searching for the perfect template to make a customized vehicle.
Depending on skill, the build time is three to five hours. This includes assembly, mounting, additional details, and painting are not included. Realistic body lines, a molded grill, light buckets, lens covers, folding side mirrors, a dash, fenders, and more make the body look amazing once it is put together. Mounting the dash in either a left or right orientation is also possible.
Our Custom LC70
We purchased several Killerbody accessories and began with a pre-painted tan LC70 body for our vehicle.
We installed a stylish LC70 metal bumper that fastens to the chassis rails. Then, we installed the 14-piece LC70 LED light kit with a light controller. Next, we upgraded the windows and doors to be movable, enabling the windows to roll up and down and the doors to open.
We then installed the entire LC70 interior set, which includes an adjustable steering wheel, an illuminated dashboard, and rubber seats that are realistic and customizable. Finally, we installed the tailgate's metal latches.
Additional improvements on the LC70 include fenders tailored to the size of the tires, the flatbed conversion kit, flatbed mud flaps, and flatbed cloth cover.
Some labor is necessary to mount the following LC70 option items on your truck's body. First of all, the bed is obstructed by the rear shocks and towers. Cutting holes in the bed to allow the shocks and shock tower to pass through will correct the clearance, but it won't look the best. Therefore, laying the shocks flat with the Xtra Speed Cantilever rear suspension package is a second option. Although it is for the SCX10 III, we used it even though our TRX-4 didn't require the center brace.
The next significant obstacle is having room for the cab where the transmission might protrude. To create a place for the SCX10 III, you must make some cuts on the backside and bottom of the cab. Killerbody provides a gearbox cover to conceal the hole. Although you can't see it from the outside, we had to chop away a portion of the floorboard in the interior set since the shifting servo is the problem with the TRX-4, not the transmission. Finally, the optional Killerbody TRX-4 battery mount resolves the problem of the TRX-4 battery position being too high for the body.
The most significant development about crawler bodies is that Killerbody produces 1/24 scale bodies for the well-liked SCX24 tiny crawler. We regrettably haven't seen them yet and don't have any other information, but we'll keep an eye out for them and notify you as soon as we do!
